Playa Preciosa begins where the village peters out—a long, lean stretch of volcanic sand flanked by coconut groves and patches of coastal scrub. The name means 'precious,' but there's nothing manicured here: logs the size of pickup trucks lie bleached and buckled along the high-tide line, and the beach widens to nearly a hundred metres when the gulf recedes, exposing flats marbled with tidal channels. You notice the difference in the water immediately. The inner Golfo Dulce is famously placid, but here the fetch is longer, the chop more insistent. Local fishermen haul pangas onto the sand near the northern end, their nets spread to dry on driftwood racks. A few simple sodas operate from under corrugated roofs back in the palms, serving casado and cold refrescos to the occasional surfer or birdwatcher who's walked this far. Sunset is the main event. The sky ignites over the Osa peaks to the west, painting the wet sand in gradients of tangerine and plum. Sanderlings sprint along the retreating wavelets, and if you time it right, you'll watch the sun drop behind Cabo Matapalo in near-total silence. It's the Puerto Jiménez coastline at its most unvarnished—a beach that asks nothing of you and offers everything in return.

The beach itself is relatively undeveloped, so plan to bring supplies if spending the day. Most visitors stay in Puerto Jiménez and visit the beach as a quieter alternative to the main town beach.
