Savudrija Beach, such as it is, unfolds along the rocky coastline below: no sand, no pebbles, just flat limestone platforms carved by tide and time into pools, channels, and shallow basins. You pick your way down to the water's edge, feet finding purchase on stone warm from hours of sun. The Adriatic here is shallow for a dozen metres, barely deeper than your knees, the seabed a continuation of the karst shelf. You lower yourself into a sun-warmed tidal pool and lie back, spine against rock, the water just deep enough to cover your shoulders. Tiny crabs skitter between crevices; sea grass sways in invisible currents. A few other visitors spread towels on the flatter sections, but the rocky terrain keeps crowds thin—there's no easy lounging, no umbrella rentals, just you and the geology. Sunset is why people make the drive. By seven the light shifts from white to gold to burnt orange, the sun dropping toward Slovenia and the Italian coast beyond. The lighthouse glows in the last rays; the water turns molten; couples stand at the edge with phones raised, trying to capture what already feels like a postcard. You stay until the color drains and the first stars appear, then climb back to the car with salt-crusted skin and the smell of wild thyme on your hands.
