The beach runs maybe fifty meters long, pebbles ranging from smooth river stones to chunks of broken limestone. A handful of sunbeds cluster near a small beach bar, but most visitors spread towels directly on the rocks, wedging bags into crevices to keep them from sliding toward the water. The swimming is deep almost immediately—three steps in and you're floating, looking down at boulders and sea grass swaying in the current. Snorkelers trace the cliff base where the rock continues underwater, riddled with small caves and overhangs where grouper hide. The dramatic topography that makes Zaraće irresistible on Instagram also makes it brutal in full sun. The cliffs reflect and concentrate heat until the air shimmers, and shade exists only in the brief morning hours before the sun clears the ridge. By early afternoon, most swimmers retreat to the beach bar or make the climb back to their cars, leaving the cove to the committed and the sunburned.
