Counting the waves…
You walk the beach road beneath pines that lean seaward, their branches filtering sunlight into coins of brightness on the path, and choose your entry point from nearly two kilometers of pebbled shore. The stones here lack the polish of more sheltered bays—they're rougher, variegated, demanding water shoes or calloused feet—but the beach's length means you always find space, even in August when campervans pack the forest behind you. Pine shade reaches almost to the waterline in places, and you claim a spot where branches overhead cut the midday glare. Dogs bound past, shaking seawater onto hot stones, their owners trailing behind with tennis balls and towels. The water starts shallow, pebbles visible through a meter of green-tinted clarity, then deepens where the bottom drops toward the channel. You swim out until the beach becomes a long tawny line between blue water and dark forest, then float on your back watching sailboats tack toward Novalja harbor. By late afternoon the pines cast long shadows and the beach takes on a languid, end-of-day atmosphere—children tired from hours of swimming, campers starting dinner on portable grills, the smell of grilled meat and pine resin mixing in cooling air. You shower under the outdoor taps, cold water shocking after warm sea, then pad back to your towel on stones that have finally stopped radiating heat, content to watch evening settle over this unpretentious strand.

Straško Beach is very safe and family-friendly. The pebble beach slopes gradually into the sea, making it suitable for swimmers of all abilities. The long shoreline provides ample space, and the area is generally well-supervised during peak season. Lifeguards are typically present in summer months. The beach is dog-friendly, which is relatively rare in Croatia, so families travelling with pets appreciate this feature. Calm waters and shaded areas under pine trees make it comfortable for extended beach days with children. Standard safety precautions apply.
Straško Beach is best visited from late May through September, with peak season in July and August. For budget-conscious travellers, June and September offer excellent value with pleasant weather, warm enough water, and significantly lower accommodation rates. The beach can get crowded in peak summer, particularly the sections closest to camping facilities. Early mornings and late afternoons provide the most peaceful experience even in high season. Spring and early autumn are ideal for those seeking solitude while still enjoying decent swimming conditions and the beautiful pine-shaded setting.
Straško Beach is located approximately 2 kilometres south of Novalja town centre, making it very accessible. You can walk along the coastal path in about 25-30 minutes, which offers scenic views. By car, it's a 5-minute drive with clearly marked roads; parking is available near the beach and campsite. During summer, local buses and tourist shuttles connect Novalja with Straško. Many visitors cycle the short distance, as the route is relatively flat. The beach is well-signposted from Novalja's main roads.
Straško Beach is backed by a large camping resort that provides most amenities. You'll find beach bars, restaurants, and cafes serving snacks, meals, and refreshments throughout the day. The campsite offers various accommodation types including pitches for tents and caravans, mobile homes, and glamping options, generally providing good value. Several nearby restaurants serve fresh seafood and Croatian specialties. For more accommodation variety and dining options, Novalja town is just two kilometres away. Grocery stores are available for self-catering visitors at the campsite.
Straško Beach is notable for its exceptional length—one of Pag's longest beaches—stretching over a kilometre. The mature pine forest backing the beach provides rare natural shade on an otherwise sun-exposed island, making it more comfortable during peak heat. Its dog-friendly policy distinguishes it from most Croatian beaches. The camping infrastructure creates a lively, international atmosphere without the intense party culture of nearby Zrće. The combination of accessibility, natural beauty, facilities, and family-oriented vibe makes it a versatile destination appealing to various traveller types.
