Counting the waves…
The approach to Ulvshale Strand takes you through a corridor of ancient beech trees before the forest opens suddenly onto a sweep of blonde sand that curves along Møn's northern coast. You'll find families spreading blankets near the dunes, where marram grass bends in the same Baltic wind that carries the scent of salt and sun-warmed pine needles. The shoreline here slopes so gently that the sea seems to hesitate before committing to depth—a gift for parents watching toddlers splash in ankle-deep water fifty paces from shore. Behind the beach, the dunes rise in soft mounds stitched together by wild roses and sea buckthorn, their orange berries bright against silvery leaves in late summer. You can follow sandy paths into the protected Ulvshale peninsula, where the forest floor is carpeted with wood anemones in spring and the only sounds are woodpecker taps and the rustle of red deer moving through undergrowth. The beach itself stretches wide enough that even on Denmark's precious sunny days, you'll claim a private patch of sand without effort. Come in early morning when the light slants low across the water and the sand still holds the cool of night. You'll share the beach with oystercatchers probing the tide line and perhaps a local couple walking their spaniel, but little else interrupts the sense that you've stumbled onto Denmark's quieter, unhurried coast—a place where the Baltic feels more like a lake and time moves at the pace of drifting clouds.

Ulvshale Strand is excellent for families, featuring shallow water that extends far from shore, making it very safe for children to paddle and play. The sandy beach slopes gently, allowing parents to supervise easily. The sheltered north-coast position on Møn typically offers calmer conditions than more exposed beaches. No lifeguard service operates here, so responsible adult supervision is essential. The surrounding forest provides natural shelter from wind. The combination of shallow water, sandy bottom, and peaceful setting makes it one of Møn's most family-friendly beaches, though always monitor children near water.
Visit Ulvshale Strand between June and August for warmest weather and comfortable swimming temperatures. Water remains relatively shallow and warms nicely during summer months. July and August are most popular but the beach's broad expanse and hidden location mean it never feels overcrowded. June and early September offer excellent conditions with fewer visitors. Weekdays are quieter than weekends. The beach and surrounding Ulvshale forest are beautiful year-round for walking and nature observation, with spring and autumn offering bird-watching opportunities and peaceful coastal atmosphere without summer crowds.
Ulvshale Strand is approximately 140 kilometers from Copenhagen, reached by car in about 2-2.5 hours. Drive south on Route 22, cross to Møn via the bridge at Kalvehave, continue through Stege, then head north following signs to Ulvshale. The beach access requires driving through protected nature areas on small roads. Public transport to this location is extremely limited; take a train to Vordingborg then limited bus service to Møn and Stege, but reaching Ulvshale itself without a car is impractical. Renting a car is strongly recommended.
Ulvshale Strand has minimal facilities, reflecting its natural, undeveloped character. Basic parking exists but expect few other amenities directly at the beach. The area is part of protected nature reserve emphasizing conservation. Bring food, water, and supplies for your beach visit. Stege, Møn's main town (about 15 kilometers south), offers supermarkets, restaurants, and cafés. Accommodation includes holiday home rentals scattered across Møn, camping options, and some B&Bs. The nearest services are in Stege or smaller villages, so plan to be self-sufficient during beach visits.
Ulvshale Strand is Møn's broad sandy beach experience, contrasting dramatically with the island's famous chalk-cliff coastline at Møns Klint. Located on the north coast, it features extensive shallow sandy shores backed by protected forest and dunes, creating a unique combination rare on Møn. The beach remains relatively hidden despite its size, attracting families and nature lovers rather than tour groups. The surrounding Ulvshale peninsula is a protected nature reserve with diverse ecosystems. This combination of sandy beach, forest setting, shallow family-friendly water, and quiet atmosphere distinguishes it from Møn's other coastal attractions.
