The light does something extraordinary at Plage de Zuydcoote. Morning fog rolls in thick enough to taste, salted and metallic, then burns off to reveal that peculiar northern luminosity—silver sky meeting pewter water in a seam you can't quite locate. By late afternoon, the sun descends over the dunes rather than the sea, painting the sand in shades of amber and rust. Locals arrive with their dogs and let them run wild across the flats.
