The beach itself is more meadow than sand: soft grass tufted with wildflowers running down to a narrow strand where the lagoon laps gently. You lay out your towel and step into water so calm it barely registers your presence. The bottom is soft silt mixed with fine sand, and the shallows extend so far that your six-year-old can wade confidently while you watch from shore. A few weathered benches face the water; an old man sits reading a newspaper, his dachshund dozing in the shade.
By late afternoon, local families arrive with picnic baskets and inflatable toys. The children shriek with delight as they discover tiny crabs in the shallows. Out on the Wiek, a catamaran glides past, its sail catching the golden light. There's no snack bar, no lifeguard tower, no loudspeaker announcements—just this quiet communion between village and water, the way summer afternoons were meant to unfold.
