The turnoff is easy to miss: a narrow gap between two farmhouses where a footpath disappears into marram grass. You follow it as it curves through dunes, the stems clicking in the breeze, until suddenly the Baltic opens before you. The sand here runs darker than Rerik's central beach, enriched with fine sediment.

You walk west and the village recedes behind the dune line. A couple sits on a driftwood log, thermos between them, watching the water in comfortable silence. The beach narrows at high tide, but now at mid-ebb you have twenty meters of firm sand before the gentle shelf into the sea. Sandbars appear as pale green shadows beneath the surface.
Swimming, you feel the temperature shift in layers—sun-warmed surface giving way to cooler currents. The bottom stays sandy far out, easy on bare feet. Back on shore, you notice how the light falls differently here, less interrupted by the pier and beach chair battalions a kilometer away. Gulls and oystercatchers outnumber people three to one.
