The water here carries the amber tint common to bodden areas, stained by tannins from coastal forests. Wading means navigating around anchored boats and occasional fishing equipment, but the bottom stays relatively firm, the water bathwater-warm by midsummer. Reeds grow thick at the margins, creating small semi-private coves where the shore curves. Across the bodden, the Zingst peninsula rises as a low green line, with the occasional sail moving slowly across the gap.
