You park along a dusty track and walk a narrow path through the scrub, brushing past aromatic leaves that release their oils in the midday heat. When you emerge onto the sand, the openness is sudden—a wide, pale crescent curving along the Ionian, backed by the green wall you just navigated.

The beach itself sees little traffic. A few local families know the turnoff; everyone else speeds past on the coast road toward the more publicized lidos near Taranto. You spread your towel where the sand is finest, close enough to the water to hear each wave exhale against the shore. The Ionian here is shallow and temperate, the color shifting from aquamarine near the beach to deeper cobalt at the horizon. Midday brings a stillness broken only by the buzz of cicadas in the woodland and the occasional bark of a distant dog.
In late afternoon you retreat into the bosco, following faint trails that weave among the trees. The shade is mottled, the air cooler, the ground soft with fallen needles and leaves.
