Visit Porto Istana in late May to June or September for excellent weather with fewer crowds. Early mornings throughout the season offer spectacular views of Tavolara Island with the best light and fewest people. July and August are busiest but the beach's size accommodates visitors reasonably well. Shoulder seasons provide warm swimming temperatures and easier parking. Porto Istana Beach is approximately 15 kilometers south of Olbia, reachable by car in about 20 minutes via the SP125 coastal road. Follow signs toward San Teodoro and watch for Porto Istana turnoff. Parking areas are available near the beach, with fees typically charged during summer season. Arrive early in peak season as parking fills quickly. No regular public transportation serves the beach, so a rental car, scooter, or taxi is necessary. The drive itself is scenic, passing through typical Sardinian coastal landscape. Some organized tours from Olbia include Porto Istana as a stop.
