Geography makes Koserow. The beach sits where Usedom cinches to barely three hundred meters wide, pinched between the Baltic and the Achterwasser lagoon, with the Streckelsberg cliff providing vertical drama uncommon on this flat coastal island. The sand itself is fine and blonde, but you come here for the backdrop: forested bluff rising behind the beach, its face too steep for buildings, mantled in beech and pine that rustle in the offshore breeze.

A wooden staircase climbs the cliff face, 58 meters of switchbacks and landings where you pause to catch your breath and take in the expanding view. At the summit, a platform looks north and south along the entire Usedom coastline, the beach a pale ribbon far below, the lagoon glinting inland. The beach at the base of the cliff stays cooler in the morning, shaded by the height, then floods with afternoon sun. Beach chairs cluster near the waterline, and families haul coolers and towels down the long approach from the parking area.
The village of Koserow spreads on both sides of the island neck, with traditional thatched-roof houses and a tiny harbor on the lagoon side. A footpath traces the clifftop through the woods, emerging at viewpoints where benches face the sea. In autumn, the beech forest turns bronze, and the light through the canopy at sunset paints the white cliff face orange. The beach stretches empty then, and you can hear the surf from the clifftop trail.
