Ölüdeniz Beach is generally very safe for swimming. The main beach area, while not as sheltered as the inner lagoon (Kumburnu), still offers relatively calm waters. The sea is typically clear and inviting. As it's a popular tourist destination, there are usually lifeguards present during peak season. Families should still supervise children, but it's a very accessible and pleasant swimming environment.
The best time to visit Ölüdeniz Beach for ideal weather and to avoid the peak summer crowds is during the shoulder seasons: late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October). Temperatures are comfortably warm for swimming and sunbathing, and the resort is lively but not overwhelmingly busy. July and August are very hot and crowded.
Ölüdeniz Beach is very well-connected. From Fethiye, the most common and convenient way is to take a local dolmuş (minibus), which runs frequently throughout the day. The journey is scenic and takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Taxis are also readily available. Many hotels in the region also offer shuttle services directly to Ölüdeniz.
