The beach runs nearly a mile along Nantucket Sound, bookended by rock jetties that shelter the shoreline from serious swells. Lifeguards patrol the central stretch in summer, and the bathhouse—wood-shingled, practical—anchors a sprawl of umbrellas, coolers, and folding chairs. By noon in July the lot fills completely, and latecomers circle like gulls looking for scraps of asphalt. Arrive before nine or after three to claim your square of sand without negotiation. What keeps families returning isn't novelty but reliability. The slope into the water is so gradual that you can walk fifty yards out and still stand waist-deep.
